The fourth year of the Reggae Marathon is having a side show to showcase the history of Negril Beach and Jamaica.

The Reggae Marathon on December 1 is expected to the largest of the marathons held in Negril so far. More than 2,500 runners are expected to take part in the race. The exposition being organized by the side of the marathon includes a show that highlights the history of Negril beach.
The Reggae Marathon event has brought the spotlight to Negril in Jamaica. For centuries, Negril was cut off from the rest of the island by bad roads and a large swamp. It lay undiscovered and sparsely populated till the 1800s.
One of the first people to realize Negril's potential was Norman Washington Manley. His administration cut canals to drain the swamp and built a highway. The Negril Land Authority was established in 1958 to supervise development of the area. Regulations enacted by the Authority are intended to preserve Negril's unspoiled beauty.
Initially, development was very slow. Then in the 1960's the American's discovered Negril. Since then, a lot of new properties and developments have come up in Negril.
