Highly-acclaimed open source web application framework for Microsoft platform honored with 2007 Editors Choice Award from Visual Studio Magazine in publication's annual Readers' Choice Awards. DotNetNuke® proudly shares Editors Choice honors with Microsoft's Expression line of products, which includes Microsoft Expression Blend and Microsoft Expression Silverlight.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) June 8, 2007 -- DotNetNuke® Corporation (www.dotnetnuke.com), producers of the highly acclaimed open source web application framework for the Microsoft platform, today announced that the product has been honored with the 2007 Editors Choice Award from Visual Studio Magazine as part of their annual Readers' Choice Awards. The full list of winners, which appears in the June 2007 issue, is chosen by Visual Studio Magazine's readers and honors excellent software in 22 development categories. The Editors Choice Award is a special designation given to products which show "special merit or innovation."

Patrick Meader, Visual Studio Magazine editor in chief, said, "The Readers Choice Awards are special because it is an accolade from the person most qualified to say whether a product is great: the person who uses it. These aren't managers voting, but developers--developers who use these tools on a daily basis to simplify their lives and create better software at a lower price. As such, there is no better recommendation for the value of a given company's product."

In capturing the Editors pick, DotNetNuke becomes the successor to the 2006 Editors Choice recipient, Microsoft's SharePoint Portal Server. For 2007, DotNetNuke® is also proud to share honors with Microsoft's Expression line of products, which includes Microsoft Expression Blend and Microsoft Expression Silverlight.

"It is a true honor and privilege to be chosen as a beneficiary of the 2007 Visual Studio Magazine Editors Choice Award," said Shaun Walker, DotNetNuke® Corporation Co-Founder and CEO. "After 4 years, 440,000 registered users, and over 3.5 million downloads, DotNetNuke® continues to offer exceptional value and innovation to developers on the Microsoft platform. We look forward to making an even stronger connection with our user community at the DotNetNuke® OpenForce '07 conference, co-located with DevConnections in Las Vegas from November 5-8, 2007."

About DotNetNuke®

"Our mission is to create opportunities and spread entrepreneurship to the world by providing a superior open source web application framework which cultivates a passionate developer community as well as a prosperous commercial ecosystem."

DotNetNuke® is an open source web application framework ideal for creating, deploying and managing interactive web, intranet and extranet sites. Based on its liberal open source licensing model, DotNetNuke® has become the Microsoft industry standard framework for constructing enterprise web applications. The mass appeal of the open source model is largely based on the fact that it reduces the total cost of ownership and increases flexibility, factors which are crucial to the success of any organization. The exponential growth of the project ecosystem is a testament to the fact that the application satisfies the broadest set of customer requirements, and has the most innovative and committed management team. For the past 4 years, DotNetNuke®'s capabilities have been aggressively driven by community feedback, strategic partnerships, and market demand.

The DotNetNuke® project was founded on pure open source ideals. These principles permeate every aspect of the project and are fundamental to its business philosophy. At its core, DotNetNuke® believes that every organization, company, or individual should have access to high quality, functional software under the most liberal license possible, regardless of their industry focus, geographical location, culture, resources, technical aptitude, or financial capabilities. But the freedom does not stop there. DotNetNuke® believes that its valued members should have the right to participate in premium service programs which are focused on their specific needs. The combination of these influences provides the basis for a strong and healthy core foundation, resulting in a vibrant community ecosystem that is ultimately supported "by the people, for the people."
