Vancouver, BC (PRWEB), July 9, 2007 - Eloquent Systems, a leader in solutions for archives, museums and specialized libraries, is pleased to announce that the California State Archives now provides online access to its rich multimedia archive materials.

A traditional government archive, the California State Archives is a repository for the State of California's permanent governmental records, as well as other materials documenting California history. The California State Archives selected the Eloquent system because of its core WebGENCAT engine, which has been designed to support traditional archival and collection descriptions, as well as multimedia content that includes oral histories, scanned photographs, PDF documents and links to external content.

Over time, researchers will also be able to access more information on their own, as more objects are defined and stored within the system. Using the system's multimedia capabilities, we can provide convenient access to complete scanned documents, photographs, and even our oral history transcripts.
"Our core WebGENCAT system is highly regarded in the industry for its power and flexibility, and our flexible hosting options allow our clients to choose the paths that best fit their IT environments and budget constraints," said Merv Richter, President of Eloquent Systems. This flexibility enables Eloquent clients to tailor the solution to their requirements; the California State Archives chooses to host its own solution, while other clients take advantage of Eloquent's hosted Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) option.

"Our archives are effectively open seven days a week now . Online access allows researchers to perform better, more thorough, searches. Researchers can better prepare their requests for materials from us. " said archivist Rebecca Wendt. "Over time, researchers will also be able to access more information on their own, as more objects are defined and stored within the system. Using the system's multimedia capabilities, we can provide convenient access to complete scanned documents, photographs, and even our oral history transcripts."

The California State Archives is also looking forward to utilizing Eloquent's Automated EAD Encoding solution, which will facilitate easier federation of the archives into broader research networks including the Online Archive of California and the Research Libraries Information Network (RLIN).
