Fantasy Kick -- Leverage the Networking Opportunities of Fantasy Football to Give Your Career the Kick it Needs

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) August 1, 2007 -- Recent research connecting the positive influence of fantasy sports on professional networking supports author Michael Henby's position in his book "Fantasy Kick -- Leverage the Networking Opportunities of Fantasy Football to Give Your Career the Kick it Needs".

The 2006 Fantasy Sport Consumer Behavior Report, conducted by Dr. Kim R. Beason, CPRP, Associate Professor, University of Mississippi, found that fantasy sports participants are using games to develop relationships in the workplace. The study, sponsored by the Fantasy Sports Trade Association, found several links between fantasy sport participation and positive influence in professional life.

"This research emphasizes why enthusiasts of fantasy football and other fantasy sports should utilize this social forum as a tool to further their careers," Henby said.

In "Fantasy Kick" Henby outlines the best way to utilize this increasingly popular pastime to mix business with pleasure, thereby creating networking opportunities for career advancement. He likens fantasy sports to the 21st-century equivalent of playing golf -- a popular pastime in which executives and employees mingle to improve their chances of getting promoted or getting a new job.

The 2006 Fantasy Sport Consumer Behavior Report survey found that from 2005-2006, there was a:

  • 18 percent increase in fantasy sport-related conversations between employees during lunch and supper breaks
  • 45 percent increase in workplace conversations about fantasy sports
  • 47 percent increase in fantasy sports' positive influence in the workplace
  • 53 percent increase in camaraderie between employees due to fantasy sports
  • 56 percent increase in making valuable business contacts due to fantasy sports
  • 70 percent increase in the formation of friendships at work due to fantasy sports
"Fantasy Kick" addresses the popularity of fantasy sports and shows how it influences relationships around the office. The 108-page book also summarizes how fantasy sports can spur conversations and discusses what actions and behavior are inappropriate while playing the game.
