New Text Editor Brings Support for TextMate Bundles to Windows

The new text editor called 'e' is coming out of beta, finally bringing support for TextMate bundles to Windows and giving users access to a full unix environment directly from their editor.

Copenhagen, Denmark (PRWEB) August 9, 2007 -- The text editor 'e', which supports TextMate bundles on Windows, is coming out of beta. The powerful automation features of 'e' makes creating websites and programming with frameworks like 'Ruby on Rails' effortless.

Since TextMate came out on the Mac, winning the Apple Design Award, and emerging as a new baseline for what a text editor should be capable of, Windows users all over the world have wished for similar capabilities on their platform.

"The emergence of TextMate radically raised users expectations of what a text editor should be capable of," says Alexander Stigsen, the developer of 'e'. At the time of it's release he was working on a simple text editor to showcase an advanced revision control engine. "It was obvious to me that my editor had to live up to these new expectations and it seemed that my only options was to either reinvent or blatantly copy TextMates features, neither of which seemed very honest or appealing to me." Instead he chose a third option: compatibility and cooperation.

He contacted the creator of TextMate to set up a meeting and luck had it that they were both from Denmark, so they could meet in person. "He was very positive about the prospect of me making the editor compatible with TextMate, and he had no problems with me using the TextMate bundles," says Alexander. Having more people, on more platforms, to use and improve the bundles, could only make them even more powerful and comprehensive.

After a lengthy period with thousands of users testing and improving the new editor, it is now coming out of beta, making the TextMate bundle system available for all Windows users.
