London, UK (PRWEB) August 16, 2007 -- After three months of online qualifying tournaments, the Battle of the Sexes finally reached a head on Saturday 11th August. The grand final was held in London and players flew from all over Europe to take their hard-earned seat at the table.

The air was full of anticipation as the tournament got underway at 7.30pm with many of the finalists bringing their partners for support. Most of the players had never played live poker before, only online, so the evening was a real learning experience for everyone!
During the online qualifiers, the women played each other as did the men to ensure we found the best of the guys and the best of the girls. On the evening, the tournament started with both tables being mixed to ensure the guys and girls had an equal stab at the title. As players were whittled down to the final table, it became clear the women might not get the chance to show the men the door. There were high hopes for Caroline Parkinson who did extremely well at this years WSOP Ladies event, coming 164th out of 1284 ladies, however tonight was not to be Caroline's night and she went out early.
With the ladies on top form and the gentleman out to destroy, we couldn't have asked for a better atmosphere. After the drinks, the ladies were nicely warmed up - enough to use their assets against the men, and they certainly pulled out all the stops! There may have only been two ladies at the final table but the game play most certainly didn't stop there.
Caroline and Christina did their best to distract the men as the last two ladies battled it out and there may have even been some pole dancing at one point as a last ditch attempt to by the ladies to hang-on in there! But, it wasn't to be. The poker gods were with the lads when Sharon's KQ unbelievably lost to KJ. The girls most certainly had the chat, but the guys took the trophy with a bit of skill… and a bit of luck. Here is how the battle finished:
Shaun had a huge hit, setting him up for the prize when he managed to knock two people out in one go. The best hand held up and we said goodbye to Robert & Stephen, accompanied by a huge roar of glee from all the women.
Stephen: 5h 3s
Robert: 2h 2d
Shaun: Kc Kd
Flop: Ks 10d 7d
Turn: Jc
River: 6s
A bit of luck for the guys saw Shaun hit the rag and the ladies lose one of their last two players.
Karen: Kd Qd
Shaun: Kh Js
Flop: Jh 7d 8s
Turn: 2h
River: 9c
Sharon tried her best to hang-on in there but with a couple of unlucky misses she ended up all-in with 69 suited. Then she saw the worst thing possible........Pocket Rockets! The women were gracious in defeat (of course) and started throwing beer mats at Dennis!
Sharon: 6h 9h
Dennis: Ac Ah
Flop: 10d Qd 4s
Turn: 5d
River: Js
With three left, Dennis tried to steal a pot with 67 but got a call with KQ. No-one hit and the K took it, meaning the end for the Danish lad.
Dennis: 6c 7c
Shaun: Kh Qd
Flop: 4c 4h 3d
Turn: 9d
River: 10s
Richard and Shaun were the last two men standing - Shaun with 18,500 chips and Richard with 15,000 chips. The title could have gone to either of them. There was a fifteen minute battle of the wits until the final hand:
Shaun: Js Qc
Richard: 5d 10d
Flop: Kh 4s Js
Turn: 7c
River: 8h
It was a glorious win for Shaun and the boys. The men took the title, much to the dismay of the woman, but only for one year. The girls WILL be back. So enjoy it while it lasts!
Julia Wild, Marketing Director of Purple Lounge said "Tonight has been the culmination of three months of hard play at the poker tables, with many of the players here entering the Battle more than once to ensure they secured a place in the final today. It's been great to give most of these players their first chance to play at a real poker table and we hope they will continue to do so now we have showed them what a fantastic experience it can be.
