According to Costa Rica Holiday, this year has seen a rather slower low season however in the past month low season reservations have blossomed, with the main travelers being on honeymoons.
London, UK (PRWEB) August 17, 2007 -- Costa Rica Holiday reported in July of 07 that the low season this year had been especially quiet for them and their partner hotels. However towards late July, early August there was a surge of bookings across the board and particularly in the honeymoon category for Costa Rica Holiday. Guanacaste, Arenal, Monteverde and Tortuguero hotels reported to us that July/August was full steam ahead for them, whereas Manuel Antonio was at about ¾ occupancy. It appears that Europeans and North Americans decided to book last minute this season which was a sigh of relief for hotel owners and us at Costa Rica Holiday. An Arenal hotel owner said that "the thought of an empty bed makes him feel nervous that a trend may set in."
Costa Rica Holiday saw a lot of last minute honeymoon bookings and of course these are always the best kind as it allows the agencies to be more creative with their customer's honeymoons and budgets. What was surprising were the honeymoon bookings for September/October (Costa Rica's wettest months). It appeared that the attraction that Costa Rica has, especially in the European market, was not washed away by the thought of heavy afternoon rains. A client from London, UK stated to us "If you have seen the June that we have had, then some afternoon rains are not a problem, as long as it is still warm." The UK received in June more rain than ever recorded for June; there are still some parts of the country under water. As Costa Rica Honeymoons director, Richard Bexon explained "the green season really should not be an excuse not to come to this paradise, as the rains still allow beautiful sunny mornings and the country is a lot more lush. Also there are some fantastic specials on during these months at some of the finest luxury hotels in Costa Rica."
Costa Rica Holiday offers its insight into why there was this pattern this year in Costa Rica's low season. Typically in September and October honeymooners are coming from Europe in search of something different. Costa Rica of course is not at its driest, but still has plenty to offer. The rain really does bring the country to life, not only the vegetation and rainforest, but the wildlife becomes much more active. Many more birds including Toucans are in the sky, monkeys in the trees and reptiles are up and about due to the more comfortable temperatures. One client said that for frogs September and October are the best times as this is typically when the frogs starting breeding so they are everywhere. Areas of Costa Rica, such as the Osa Peninsula really are amazing at this time of the year with around 6% of the world's biodiversity being awakened into activity. For anyone who visits Costa Rica and the Osa Peninsula, this is always the highlight for them as there really is nowhere else like it, it is referred to as the "Last frontier' of Costa Rica as its boasts the Corcovado National Park and Osa Peninsula. A trend that has recently set in, is for people looking to explore the Osa but are not too keen in staying in more rustic accommodation find their way to Dominical, to such hotels as Cuna del Angel. Here you can stay in relative luxury and explore the Osa by boat, with diving, hiking and snorkeling the main attractions.
The rains however do not stop the sun, as Guanacaste prides itself on supposedly having 365 days of sun a year, with beaches such as Conchal, Mal Pais and Tamarindo being among the most popular here. With such diversity in Costa Rica during the Green Season, there is really no reason not to come for a honeymoon or indeed any type of holiday and the recent increase in green season reservations for honeymoons and holidays has been a breath of fresh air to the tourism industry. Also by recent calculations it appears that the dry season (December - March) 2008 will be a full house again. So if you are thinking of coming in the dry season please book early.
