Studio City, CA (PRWEB) August 17, 2007 -- Larry Bagby will tell you that he's in the music business because "he loves music and loves sharing with others." His new EP, On The Radio, reveals that there's talent behind that passion, and a drive to succeed.
The new EP, available on CD Baby and Bagby's website (www.larrybagby.com), was produced by Curt Piar and Chad Watkins . Bagby wrote and arranged all the tracks except "Counting My Lucky Stars," written by Mike Stinson. Guitarist Sam Nickell and drummer Theron Derrick round out the lineup.
"These guys have brought an amazing spirit to the project," Bagby said.
Bagby wants to take a step beyond being an entertainer to being an inspiration. "I want my audience and listeners to want to learn how to play guitar or piano and teach their kids to do the same," he says. "I also want them to love each other more and laugh more together and to just feel inspired to create and to be better people."
He is is up to the task. After all, he's had some experience: "I can't imagine doing anything else besides performing; my friends tell me I have very few other life skills," Bagby says with a smile. While he is still relatively early in his musical career, he has been a successful actor for 20 years. He recently played Johnny Cash's best friend and bass player Marshall Grant in Walk the Line, and has appeared on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Hocus Pocus, and a variety of hit television shows.
The new EP is a follow-up to 2005's Where I Stand, his inaugural effort. Like his previous effort, which was based on the previous three years of his life, the new EP gives listeners a glimpse inside Bagby. "My music for sure comes from within me…I sit down at the piano or guitar and just play all the time and something new always pops out," he says. "The tricky part is figuring out what I am trying to say. The music always matches my emotion at the time and I hope the lyrics match both, too."
However, being a veteran of the entertainment business helps him to temper his expectations and understand the challenges that lie ahead. "I see my biggest challenge as securing the manpower," he says. "You need to get out to the masses and build a fan base fast. It's one fan at a time."
All in all, it's a great outcome for a kid who got up on stage to perform with his dad's Top 40 dance band. Bagby's dream gig is to tour nationally, play large venues and hear the audience singing along with him. Once the new EP begins to take hold in the market, the fulfillment of that dream may not be far off.
