Wonkosphere.com reported that presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Hillary Clinton had the most buzz share from political bloggers in the month of August 2007. Fifteen blogs and web sites were also given the "One Step Ahead" Award for August, including The Thunder Run, TPM Café, and CNN Political Ticker.

Chandler, AZ (PRWEB) September 7, 2007 -- Wonkosphere.com, a new web service which tracks and analyzes the political blogosphere, announced today that former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and New York Senator Hillary Clinton led all 2008 presidential candidates in buzz share for the month of August 2007. Romney attracted 20.2% of buzz share from conservative bloggers, while Clinton received 32.4% of buzz share from liberal bloggers.

Among conservative bloggers, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was a close second to Romney, at 20.1%, while former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson came in third at 18%, mostly from a late month swell in coverage. In the liberal blogosphere, Illinois Senator Barack Obama was also a close second to Clinton, at 32%, while a late rush by former South Carolina Senator John Edwards brought him to third at 15%.

Filling out the pack among conservative bloggers were Ron Paul (11%), Mike Huckabee (9%), John McCain (9%), Tom Tancredo (4%), Sam Brownback (3%), and Duncan Hunter (2%). From liberal bloggers, Edwards was followed by Bill Richardson (5%), Chris Dodd (4%), Joe Biden (3%), Dennis Kucinich (2%), and Mike Gravel (1%).

The numbers were compiled by Wonkosphere.com, a new web site which provides timely and unbiased tracking and analysis of over 1,100 political blogs using objective, computerized, natural language processing. Buzz share is calculated by examining the linguistic prominence of each candidate in blog coverage for a given period, and expressing his or her share of the total as a percentage.

Wonkosphere also announced the winners of its August "One Step Ahead" award. The One Step Ahead section on Wonkosphere lists blogs whose posts on a given day best represent the collective buzz on all blogs the next day. These blogs are "ahead of the pack," anticipating or driving talk in the Wonkosphere.

Winning conservative blogs were The Thunder Run, Ankle Biting Pundits, SWJ Blog, Hot Air, and The Mudville Gazzette. Winning liberal blogs were TPM Café, The Democrats Blog, blogHillary, Crooks and Liars, and Think Progress. Step Ahead winners among the independent blogs were CNN Political Ticker, First Read, The Caucus, Marc Ambinder, and USA Today on Politics.
