The multi-faceted service, known as Mentat, tightly integrates personal and group tasks into a single, unified interface that can be accessed from both desktop browsers and mobile devices.

"We developed Mentat as a sort of defensive maneuver. We work on several different projects internally as well as a large number of projects for external customers," said Daniel Pasco, the company's CEO and chief engineer. "Keeping track of everything we have to do is a mind-boggling endeavor and existing products, such as Basecamp, simply aren't sophisticated enough to manage anything but the most basic projects. Mentat addresses our needs handily now and we've got even better enhancements on the way."

Mentat's web interface pushes beyond conventional Web 2.0 standards with innovative user interface features, including a Getting Things Done®-influenced "to do" view that allows users flooded with tasks to focus on a manageable subset of their overall workload.

"I really wish that other web applications supported our 'tab out' feature," said Garrett Kelly, a senior engineer at Brain Murmurs. Mentat will be available as a free, ad-driven service for casual users. A richer feature set, included shared projects, will also be available for $10/month per user. A stand-alone version of the service suitable for installing at corporations is slated for later in the year.

The Mentat website is scheduled to go live on September 15th, 2007.
