Immigration Stances Heat up Republican Presidential Primaries

GOP contenders Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney have brought up differences in their stance on illegal immigration. While neither claims to support "sanctuary cities" to illegal immigrants, the candidates continue to share their differences. One law firm, Immigration Law Help, is doing its part to inform people of possible solutions.

Washington (PRWEB) September 12, 2007 -- While immigrants continue to hide from the public eye, issues regarding immigration have seen a lot of public face in parts of the Republican presidential primary campaign last week, and experts say it is likely to get some more. Top primary candidates Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney spent several days debating illegal immigration - bringing up "sanctuary city" policies that protect illegal immigrants from federal enforcement.

While neither claims to support such a cause, neither candidate is opposed to changing laws that would get immigrants citizenship. Arizona Republican and presidential candidate Sen. John McCain told a crowd in Aspen that he received flak for supporting a major immigration bill that would give illegal immigrants a path to citizenship. Many republicans opposed to new amnesty bills are worried that such a path might not solve many immigration problems.

It involves economics, national security, and national identity
Thomas Mann, a senior fellow in governance studies at the Brookings Institution in Washington, said that immigration may not be a determining factor because all the Republican candidates have opted to pursue only tough border security measures. "It involves economics, national security, and national identity," he said, "It is less likely to be a decisive issue but will be the subject of many speeches and ads," Mann said.

So far this year, Romney has taken a tough stand on immigration, including a recent trip to the border where he pledged to cut off federal money to cities that offer "sanctuary" to illegal immigrants. Small law firms, such as Immigration Law Help, are helping to inform citizens and immigrants on ways to gain citizenship legally. The company focuses on problems faced by any immigrant and knows that immigration to US can't and shouldn't be forbidden. Their solution is to inform as much as possible to help innocent immigrants gain citizenship.
