More Home Hauntings to Bewitch Trick-or-Treaters this Halloween

The rising popularity of Halloween decor makes for increasingly creative neighborhood haunted home sightings. Halloween Alliance is publishing a variety of how to articles on yard haunt planning and prop making for homeowners looking for ideas and inspiration this holiday season.

Winnipeg, MB (PRWEB) September 24, 2007 -- Instead of a lonely jack o'lantern flickering on a porch, Trick-or-Treaters are facing more tricks than treats this Halloween -- complete with moaning from haunted graveyards, holographic ghosts peeking around garages and elaborate Halloween games replacing the simple handing out of candy at front doors. http://HalloweenAlliance.com attributes these increasingly sophisticated ways of giving people a good scare to the ability of Halloween lovers and crafters around the world to showcase and share their creative projects with others online.

"There's definitely a growing interest in elaborate Halloween yard haunts," says Chris Molnar, editor of HalloweenAlliance.com. "While some people simply dole out candy, others take the time to truly entertain the Trick-or-Treaters that come to their door. The kids enjoy getting candy in bewitching atmospheres, and the home-haunter loves to see the reactions to their haunted spectacles."

With a combination of photo-sharing websites, message boards and video, Halloween decorators, or "yard haunters" as they are known by, can gleefully showcase their projects and experiences online. Sharing these techniques and exchanging decoration ideas has allowed those with similar passions to start their own home haunts. Experienced haunters are inspired to craft ever more ambitious and ingenious props and special effects.

Halloween is big business, surpassing three billion dollars in 2006 on decorations alone, according to a study conducted by Unity Marketing. That's up 21 percent from the year before, and there is no sign of it slowing down.

To meet this burgeoning interest, Halloween Alliance will be publishing a variety of how-to projects leading up to Halloween at http://halloweenalliance.com/howto, from children's games to family crafts to tombstone construction techniques. Current projects on the website include:

  • Building an elaborate "haunted tree" for a yard game
  • Planning and preparing your yard for a successful haunting
  • Tips on hosting a neighborhood Halloween block party
  • Crafting a tombstone with internal lighting
  • Setting up the perfect buffet table for your party.

Along with step-by-step guides, Halloween Alliance will be interviewing some of these self-styled yard haunters, to be published both on the web and in their newsletter. Anybody interested in celebrating the holiday with a little more flair can discover the crafter's techniques, preparations and how they come up with their bone-chilling ideas in the first place.

Halloween comes but once a year. For these serious decorators, though, the season is all year long.
