We are excited to hear directly from Mr. Hayward about NYRA's future plans, and particularly how Spitzer's recommendation impacts Saratoga Springs.
NYRA has managed thoroughbred racing in New York at the Aqueduct, Belmont, and Saratoga Racetracks since 1955. Governor Spitzer recently recommended NYRA continue to operate the racing tracks at Aqueduct, Belmont Park and Saratoga. The decision to retain NYRA, which has been under scrutiny by state investigators in recent years, bypassed outside groups that had bid for the contract. The recommendation for the 30-year contract will go to the state Legislature for approval and would take hold January 1, 2008.

As the former President and CEO of both the Daily Racing Form and of Little Brown Publishing, Hayward brings to his position a wealth of experience in thoroughbred horse racing and business management. He has been a horseracing fan for over 25 years and a Thoroughbred owner for the last 10. Parting Glass Racing's Managing Owner, Tom Gallo, feels that, "Charlie Hayward has been a key component of NYRA's turnaround after proving his ability to 'fix things' while at the helm of DRF and Little Brown Publishing. His sharp business acumen certainly facilitated Governor Spitzer's recommendation that NYRA continue." Gallo continues, "We are excited to hear directly from Mr. Hayward about NYRA's future plans, and particularly how Spitzer's recommendation impacts Saratoga Springs."

Parting Glass Racing was founded by Tom Gallo and Joan Desadora (owner of The Parting Glass Pub) in 2001. With more than 200 members, Parting Glass Racing, LLC is the umbrella organization managing several thoroughbred racing partnerships and horses. Their meeting is held every month at the Parting Glass Pub and is open to the public.
