Child Development Experts Will Gather to Discuss the Latest Research and Practices to Promote Healthy Development

Washinton, DC (PRWEB) September 5, 2008 -- "America's Pediatrician," Dr. Berry Brazelton, a founder of ZERO TO THREE, will open the organization's 23rd annual National Training Institute (NTI) in Los Angeles this December. Dr. Brazelton will share details of his groundbreaking work on behalf of babies and toddlers, as well as address how things have or have not changed in improving the lives of young children.

ZERO TO THREE's three-day premier conference, Connecting Science, Policy and Practice: Improving Outcomes for Infants and Toddlers will be held Dec. 5-7 at The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites in Los Angeles, with a special pre-institute program on Dec. 4.

This year's NTI offers more than 72 workshops and training sessions on cutting edge research and best practice strategies in areas such as brain development, child care and school readiness.

Conference highlights include three plenary sessions:

  • The Emotional World of Infants and Toddlers; Presenters will explore profound early insights into mental states that very young children achieve during the first two years of life.
  • Policy Initiatives to Address the Needs of the Most Vulnerable Infants and Toddlers; Presenters will describe ways in which policies can be designed to address the needs of both children living in poverty and children of immigrant families.
  • Group Care in the U.S.: Past, Present & Future Opportunities to Improve Quality Care; The leading voices in the field will discuss the history of group care, the obstacles faced over the years in providing high-quality group care and current efforts and progress to overcome these challenges.
  • In addition, the NTI features four pre-institute sessions held Dec. 4 on: ZERO TO THREE'S Diagnostic Classification of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood: Revised Edition; Immigration: Supporting Newcomer Families with Young Children; Depression in the Family System: Emerging Issues and Best Practices in Working with Culturally Diverse Families; and, Substance Abuse: Issues for Professionals Working With Infants, Toddlers and Their Families.
