Family Workouts Make Fitness Fun for Parents and Kids

Parents can also give kids a competitive advantage, says youth fitness expert Scott Lancaster. Lancaster, former NFL youth development director, recently launced Youth Evolution Sports and authored "Athletic Fitness for Kids."

Champaign, IL (PRWEB) January 2, 2008 -- Parents can be positive fitness role models for their kids by leading them off the couch and into the backyard. In addition to the quality time and healthy habit a family fitness routine sets, youth fitness advocates Scott Lancaster and Radu Teodorescu claim that parents can give their kids an advantage on the court and field with the proper workout routine. In their new book, "Athletic Fitness for Kids" (Human Kinetics, © 2008), Lancaster and Teodorescu teach parents how to build a fundamentally sound workout program they can do with their kids.

"Many children don't want to go outside to play. We need fresh ideas to reach these kids, a new method of training," says Lancaster, founder of Youth Evolution Sports and host of "The ABCs of Sports" on Sirius Radio.

"Athletic Fitness for Kids" guides parents and kids through seven critical athletic components that Lancaster claims aid in a physically and mentally prepared athlete and/or fit adult. Those athletic components are: agility, balance, coordination, flexibility, speed, stamina, and strength. According to Lancaster, many of these components are overlooked in sport-specific training and adult oriented fitness programs. The result is kids and adults with underdeveloped athletic and fitness potential--which often leads them to abandon fitness programs entirely.

For the first time, fitness and athletic programming is contemporary, entertaining, and creatively benefits both child and parent. "We all need movement training in order to function properly--whether that's on the athletic field or becoming a more complete and fit adult," says Radu Teodorescu, world renowned fitness instructor, and trainer to hundreds of stars and world- class athletes.

"The unique feature of this program is the incorporation of self-measuring competitions that allow every participant to measure his or her own progress. By presenting unique, creative tricks and maneuvers that challenge kids and adults to improve on vital movement techniques, this program provides long lasting results through an entertaining method while developing a life long passion for working out," adds Lancaster.
