Interlochen, MI (PRWEB) January 4, 2008 -- Members of the Martha Graham Dance Company will serve as artists in residence at Interlochen Arts Academy this February. The Dance Ensemble of the fine arts boarding high school and one of the most celebrated modern dance companies in America will share the same stage on February 23 at Corson Auditorium on the campus of Interlochen Center for the Arts. The evening will include signature works by the Company with a performance Ensemble of the classic Graham masterwork, Diversion of Angels by Arts Academy dancers.

On February 19, Janet Eilber, artistic director of the Martha Graham Company and an Arts Academy alumna, and Aaron Sherber, music director of the Company, will arrive at Interlochen to work with Academy students. The Martha Graham dancers will arrive on February 21.

"The work of Martha Graham is iconic and provides multiple entry points for not only the dancers but all of the artists and students on the Interlochen campus to explore the very nature of art and their own creative process," said Mark Borchelt, director of the dance program at Interlochen.

The dance boarding school program at Interlochen Center for the Arts provides an environment for students to develop both artistic skills and technical proficiency, allowing them to pursue a professional dance career or continue their education at the collegiate level. Students attend daily classes and rehearsals and take part in three fully produced dance productions each year. At least once a year, the dance ensemble performs with the Interlochen Orchestra in a full-length classical ballet.

This winter, Interlochen Arts Academy and Interlochen Arts Camp summer program dance faculty will be conducting auditions across the country. Please visit Interlochen.org for more information and a full audition schedule. Interlochen Arts Academy boarding school attracts exceptionally talented and motivated students from nearly every state and more than 20 other countries to study creative writing, music, dance, visual arts, theatre, motion picture arts and rigorous college-preparatory academics. The Arts Academy is part of the non-profit Interlochen Center for the Arts, which also recently garnered national attention when it was awarded the National Medal of Arts in the fall of 2006.

Interlochen Arts Academy is part of the nonprofit Interlochen Center for the Arts, recipient of the 2006 National Medal of Arts and the only organization in the world that brings together: a 2,200-student summer camp program; a 500-student fine arts boarding high school; opportunities for hundreds of adults to engage in fulfilling artistic and creative programs; two 24-hour listener-supported public radio stations (classical music and news); more than 600 arts presentations annually by students, faculty and world-renowned guest artists; a global alumni base spanning eight decades, including a galaxy of arts luminaries.
