Peak Performance Multisport will be the new title sponsor of the Maine Marathon, October 5, 2008. The race features three events -- a full marathon, a half marathon and a marathon relay.
It's a great course to compete on, and early October is an awesome time to be outside running and racing in Maine. This race means a lot to the community, and we're proud to be a part of it.

Portland, ME (PRWEB) January 24, 2008 -- A local sports business will be the new title sponsor of the 2008 Maine Marathon, announced Maine Track Club (MTC) President Mark Grandonico and Maine Marathon Co-Race Directors Howard Spear and Bob Aube. They said today that Peak Performance Multisport of Portland has signed on as the title sponsor of the 17th annual marathon to be held on Sunday, October 5. The name of the event will be the Peak Performance Maine Marathon.

"Having a local sponsor was really important to us," said MTC's Grandonico who said that during the interview process it was clear that Peak Performance shared many of the same goals as the all-volunteer race that has raised more than $2 million for local children's charities. The race draws more than 2,500 runners from all over the world competing in three categories: marathon, half marathon and marathon relay. A Boston Marathon qualifying event, the race has been listed as one of the Top 80 Road Races by New England Runner Magazine, as well as their 2004 Race of the Year.

Spear said that Peak Performance Multisport owner Tim Brewer "is someone interested in runners and the entire local community. All the talk revolved more around the event, the community and the runners rather than about the business aspect," said Spear. Peak Performance will take the place of the Sportshoe Center, the title sponsor since 2000.

When word came this fall the race was in the market for a new title sponsor, Brewer contacted the Maine Track Club. "We jumped at the chance," said Brewer who has run in both the half and the full-length Maine Marathon events over the years. "It's a great course to compete on, and early October is an awesome time to be outside running and racing in Maine. This race means a lot to the community, and we're proud to be a part of it."

Peak Performance Multisport recently moved into a new Marginal Way facility in Portland -- just a few blocks away from the marathon starting line, helping to position the business to dedicate even more resources to support the regional running community. In addition to the Maine Marathon, Peak Performance sponsors or supports more than 25 Maine road races, including the Dan Cardillo Memorial 5K in Falmouth, the Safe Passage 5K in Cumberland and the Four on the Fourth in Bridgton. It also sponsors the Tri-Maine triathlon series as well as cycling, swimming and Nordic Ski events, classes and clinics.
