The Human Capital Institute (HCI), a global professional association and educator in talent management strategies, and StepStone Solutions, a leading global provider of integrated talent management solutions, announced today that the two organizations will jointly launch “The Four Generation Workforce” education and research track. The track is one of several key topics addressed in HCI’s Talent Strategy community of interest, a community HCI considers essential to organizations focused on leveraging human capital.

Washington, D.C. (HRMarketer/PRWeb) January 23, 2008 -- The Human Capital Institute (HCI), a global professional association and educator in talent management strategies, and StepStone Solutions, a leading global provider of integrated talent management solutions, announced today that the two organizations will jointly launch “The Four Generation Workforce” education and research track. The track is one of several key topics addressed in HCI’s Talent Strategy community of interest, a community HCI considers essential to organizations focused on leveraging human capital.

“For the first time in history, organizations in the United States, Canada, and Europe are experiencing an unprecedented mix in the workplace, as four distinct generations work side-by-side,” said Allan Schweyer, HCI President & Executive Director. “Generational differences are a hot topic, but the emphasis is frequently placed on potential conflict and how to avoid it. Instead, the focus should be on leveraging generational differences to maximize talent potential.”

In today's workforce, success is increasingly defined by an organization’s ability to deploy programs and create experiences that are compelling for all groups. A key element is helping individuals understand the motivations and perspectives of their peers across the enterprise
Stereotypes relating to the generations are well-known: The civic generation has strong values – however, conformists within this group are suspicious of diverse thought. Baby Boomers are hard working but self-centered. Gen X’ers are creative and independent but skeptical and disengaged. Gen Y’s are tremendously capable but attention challenged and short on patience. What all of these differences mean to employers is not always understood.

The Four Generation Workforce learning track focuses on the real world, talent management challenges related to working with each of these generations in the fastest-changing, most competitive global economy in history. The track explores such issues as how a Gen X manager can get the most out of Boomer and Gen Y employees at the same time; how the skills of Civic’s and Gen Y complement each other; how an organization creates a brand that simultaneously resonates with each of these important segments of the workforce; and the value each generation places on compensation and benefits, work/life balance, succession, and career development.

“In today's workforce, success is increasingly defined by an organization’s ability to deploy programs and create experiences that are compelling for all groups. A key element is helping individuals understand the motivations and perspectives of their peers across the enterprise,” said Bucky Couch, Managing Director of StepStone Solutions, Americas. “We are pleased to support the Four Generation Workforce learning track in order to provide organizations with the information and tools they need to further their efforts in this important area.”
