Cambridge, MA, January 8, 2008 -- Window Book proudly announced the launch of new functionality in both Postal Package Partner™ and DAT-MAIL™ for providing best practice for handling Priority Mail Open and Distribute.
The USPS® Priority Mail Open and Distribute service allows you to send sacks or trays of presorted mail pieces to postal facilities located closer to where the item will be delivered. The mail gets to the recipient faster, on a more predictable date and, in many cases, for less money.
This program was previously referred to as Priority Mail Drop Ship. It has been renamed to Priority Mail Open and Distribute. The new Open and Distribute program allows mailers to use the Postal Service's expedited network for transporting their presorted bulk mailings to a facility closer to where the mail is to be delivered. You can benefit by receiving one to three day delivery service using the Postal Service's expedited transportation network for your sacks or trays to postal facilities around the country.
The Postal Service recently proposed new standards for Priority Mail Open and Distribute. Currently mailers may use the electronic option for Delivery Confirmation service on Priority Mail Open and Distribute containers at no additional cost. The USPS proposal would make this optional extra service a requirement. The option to use Delivery Confirmation™ on Priority Mail Open and Distribute will soon become a requirement.
Postal Package Partner's Open and Distribute Module provides a perfect solution for mailers for generating labels, manifesting and tracking Open and Distribute items with Delivery Confirmation. The Open and Distribute Module is designed to automate the process of importing the data, print Delivery Confirmation barcoded labels, generate manifest and postal statements, track delivery, and keep a database of all drop shipments.
Mailers can also calculate savings on Priority Mail Drop Ship items by using the new functionality in DAT-MAIL which determines the profits and break evens when handling presorted bulk mailings. You can analyze the mail you were going to enter locally to see if there is a discount for destination entry with Open and Distribute simply by entering the Mail.dat® file and using Quick Plan/Planalyzer to optimize savings.
"Predictable time of delivery is vital for time-sensitive offers, such as coupons. It is sometimes less expensive to package bundles of presorted mail with postage applied at the destination entry rates and add the cost of Priority Mail Open and Distribute transportation; the total cost will still be less than bringing mail to the local Post Office," said Jeffery Peoples, CEO of Window Book.
