London, UK (PRWEB) November 15, 2008 -- One in four UK travellers are now planning to skip on purchasing travel insurance according to a recent survey by Sainsbury's Finance, instead relying on the "free" travel insurance provided by banks and credit cards. But with these free policies offering extremely limited cover, holiday goers could be left facing thousands of pounds worth of expenses if something goes wrong.
All too often, the level of cover offered by this "free" travel insurance is not up scratch. One such example is travel accident insurance, offered with many credit card purchases. Travel accident insurance only covers you for accidents that occur while you are travelling on planes, trains and other forms of public transport - you have no cover at all at your actual destination. Other forms of free travel insurance offer better cover than travel accident insurance, but there are often numerous weaknesses to the cover concealed in the small print. Cancellation conditions are often unusually prohibitive, most sports and many other activities may not covered, and the amount of cover offered for a medical emergency can be dangerously low.
