Buffalo, NY (Vocus) November 13, 2008 -- Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc. Demand response is a viable resource option for reducing peak electricity to help stabilize the power grid during supply shortages. This much needed capability comes at a time when additional capacity is necessary in the face of increasing demand for electricity and the likelihood of continued shortfalls. By participating in these programs, participants receive significant dollars for agreeing in advance to reduce some level of their power usage on "peak usage" days. Members of ECS' programs are usually large energy users who receive notice the day prior to an event, allowing them time to devise a plan and prepare for the curtailment effort.
By entering into this Agreement, the DESC has provided a means for the Department of Defense and other governmental agencies to utilize ECS as their demand response provider, thereby providing access to energy solutions that provide benefits on the social, economic, and environmental level.
"Our mission is to provide federal agencies with comprehensive energy solutions that are effective and economical and demand response services go a long way in helping us meet that goal," said Lawrence Fratis, Contracting Officer for the DESC. "Since it's a no-risk program, that also provides benefits to utility providers, and the community as a whole, I feel confident in recommending participation in demand response programs."
"We are pleased to partner with the Defense Energy Support Center," said Paul Tyno executive vice president, business development of ECS. "As energy efficiency becomes a staple in our society, the government's involvement in demand response is a huge step in educating the rest of the country on the importance and simplicity of going green."
