Owners of US Fidelis, Cory and Darain Atkinson, treat employees like family and show their support for Autism research and awareness.

Wentzville, MO (PRWEB) November 17, 2008 -- Ask anyone who knows personally what it means to be parents of a special needs child, they will tell you that the financial and emotion strain on the parents can be overwhelming. Dustin Houston is no different. Dustin is a manager with US Fidelis, one of the nation's leading providers of extended warranties. In 2004, Dustin and his wife were devastated to learn that their 18-month old son Jakey was diagnosed with Autism.

One out of every 150 children will be diagnosed with Autism. Autism is a lifelong neurological disorder that impairs a person's ability to communicate and relate to others. It affects families of all socioeconomic levels, and without adequate therapy and treatment, most people with Autism will require care and supervision for the rest of their lives. For four years the Houston's exhausted themselves emotionally and financially helping Jakey recover through intense therapy programs.

Although we're heartbroken about Jakey and Jared's struggles, we know that God is bigger and stronger than the thief who took so much from our family, and the millions of others who suffer because of Autism
Then the unthinkable happened.

On February 14, 2008, the Houston's youngest son Jared was diagnosed with Autism. Though devastated by the news, the Houston's turned to their faith for hope and strength. "Although we're heartbroken about Jakey and Jared's struggles, we know that God is bigger and stronger than the thief who took so much from our family, and the millions of others who suffer because of Autism," said Dustin Houston.

When the owners of US Fidelis, Cory and Darain Atkinson, heard of the Houston's plight, they felt a spiritual duty to get involved. "US Fidelis is a Christian-based company, and we believe in treating all of our employees like family members," said Darain Atkinson. "It's not just the 'Christian' thing to do; it's the right thing to do."

US Fidelis began sponsoring fundraisers, including bake sales and Texas Hold 'Em poker tournaments. The company also played a major role in sponsoring teams and individuals participating in St. Louis' Autism Speaks' Walk Now For Autism, which took place in Forest Park in October.

More than 21,000 people walked to show their support for Autism research and awareness. Team "2 J BOYS" raised more than $37,000!

"I cannot say enough about the generosity and support given to us by everyone at US Fidelis, and the Atkinson's in particular," said Dustin Houston. "Having the resources of US Fidelis to help find a cure for this cruel disorder is truly a blessing."

The fundraiser doesn't officially end until November 30. For those wishing to donate to the "2 J Boys" team, you can do so online at the "2 J Boys" team page on the Walk Now for Autism site.
