(PRWEB) November 17, 2008 -- Windlesham Golf Management Ltd is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephen Blake as its new General Manager. Stephen is well qualified for the role with an Honours Degree in Sport Science, a Masters in Business Administration and over 20 years of leisure management experience, including 13 years in golf club management.
He was the Operations Director of Ensign Leisure Ltd, which is part of the Country Club Group of six courses that includes our neighbour Mill Ride. Stephen’s experience includes the overseeing of the construction and development of high quality golf facilities and like us is passionate about providing a member’s focused golf club and a first class leisure experience.
He also shares our view in establishing a sustainable business, which is in harmony with nature and the environment and he successfully steered Rookwood GC to become regional winners of the prestigious BIGGA (Greenkeepers) National Environmental Management Awards in 2005 & 2006.
Stephen is an accomplished sportsman and represented Team GB in sailing and windsurfing, winning a number of international championships and was part of the coaching team at the Seoul Olympics. He is also a keen golfer, plays off 13 and like most of us is striving to improve.
Stephen says “I’m delighted to be joining the Windlesham team at such an exciting time in the development of the Club. The combination of excellent facilities, committed and experienced investors, enthusiastic staff and a loyal and friendly membership is an electrifying mix and I am confident that Club will continue to go from strength to strength”.
Peter says, “Stephen’s expertise and knowledge will complement the existing team and his appointment is a major addition to the management team following the acquisition of the original minority shareholders by the Lumley family in 2007 and the strategic redevelopment of the golf club.”
Following Peter Lumley’s appointment as Managing Director, in September 2007, considerable improvements to the course and the clubhouse have been successfully implemented with significant additional investment being undertaken this winter in the Clubhouse and on the course.
