2008 Forecast Earth Hot List Announces Top Ten People and Companies Influencing Climate Change

Google, T. Boone Pickens among those Honored by The Weather Channel

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 18, 2008 -- The Weather Channel® announces its 2008 Forecast Earth Hot List, recognizing the top 10 most influential people or entities in the fight against global warming. As part of NBC's Green is Universal "Green Week" campaign, the honorees that have helped engineer climate change awareness will be listed online at www.weather.com/forecastearth and featured during Forecast Earth on The Weather Channel Dec. 6-7 at 5 and 7 p.m. ET.

The 2008 Forecast Earth Hot List honorees include:

  • Reverend Sally Bingham - One of the first faith leaders to fully recognize the moral issue of global warming, she brings widespread recognition to the environmental link with faith.
  • Mick Bremans - As CEO of Ecover, Bremans oversees a Belgian company that provides effective, sustainable cleaning alternatives with minimum impact on the environment.
  • Thomas Friedman - The Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist at The New York Times released his most recent book, Hot, Flat, and Crowded, about the green revolution in the 21st century.
  • Google - Google is now funding green technology and using its brand power to lobby for policy change. In Oct. 2008, Google introduced its own U.S. energy plan.
  • Van Jones - A green jobs pioneer and social advocate, Jones's 2008 book, The Green Collar Economy, explains an inclusive economy to resolve the ecological crisis and decrease poverty.
  • Barbara Kingsolver - The well known author and local food advocate, Kingsolver wrote Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, to show a year in the life of her own family's local food project.
  • Peggy Liu - Liu created the Joint U.S.-China Cooperation on Clean Energy, an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization)focused on accelerating the use of clean and efficient energy in China within 10 years.
  • T. Boone Pickens - An advocate and venture capitalist of sustainable plans, Pickens' own 2008 campaign is known for its call for less U.S. foreign oil imports and more wind power.
  • Jerome Ringo - After observing the negative impacts of Louisiana's petrochemical industry on local communities, Ringo began organizing environmental justice groups on clean energy.
  • Cathy Zoi - As founding CEO of Alliance for Climate Protection, Zoi is working on the 2008 "We" campaign to enlist millions of people to support policies to solve climate crisis.

In addition, The Weather Channel is participating in NBC's Green is Universal "Green Week" campaign, airing green-themed programming throughout the entire week including episodes of its Forecast Earth series focusing on climate change challenges, innovators, alternative energy, green home building, water conservation, and green education. Even the well-known blue logo of The Weather Channel has turned green for the week and green living tips are running on-air, online and via mobile at www.weather.com.
