Filmmaker Kathi Carey debuts her new, award-winning film "Worth" in a series of festival appearances, including the 7th Annual Anchorage International Film Festival and the 3rd Annual Beverly Hills Hi-Def Film Festival. Carey, whose "Reflections of a Life" earned recognition and awards, says of her work, "A film can change someone's life. This fact influences every aspect of my films from subject matter to casting."
Los Angeles (Billboard Publicity Wire) December 3, 2008 -- Kathi Carey has become known for her auteur film making style by writing, directing and acting in her projects. Her latest works have included serious themes like breast cancer and were accented with irony. Yet, her earliest film, "Garage Sale," was a Terry Southern-style black comedy about an apartment house landlord who would murder his tenants when they fell behind in their rents and then sell off their possessions at his weekly garage sales. "Life seems to have its own sense of humor when dealing with us and so that becomes a natural element in my films," says Kathi.
Kathi's current film, "Worth," is inspired by a turn-of-the-century poem. This seemingly-simple film proves that you can't judge a book by its cover. In just 7 minutes, this film explores many weighty themes. It's about class distinction and self-esteem. It's about peer pressure and judging others. It's about limiting oneself and putting limits on others. It's about regret, redemption, changing lives and changing ourselves. It's about the beauty that surrounds us on a daily basis and about overlooking the priceless based on appearances.
