GM wins Detroit to DC Road Rally - Has Cheapest Vehicle to Drive Among Big 3 According to Cost2Drive.com

According to website Cost2Drive.com, General Motors outpaced it's domestic competition with a $29.07 cost to drive from Detroit to Washington DC.

Virginia (PRWEB) December 3, 2008 -- In a second attempt to secure federal funding for their respective companies, the leaders of the Big Three domestic automakers (Chrysler, Ford and General Motors) again made the trek from Detroit to Washington, DC but this time they decided to drive their own vehicles instead of flying. Cost2Drive.com thought it would be interesting to see which executive chose the most cost-efficient vehicle for the journey.

According to Cost2Drive.com, Rick Wagoner from General Motors was the winner driving his company's Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid at a cost of $29.07, consuming 17.8 gallons of gas at 32 MPG during the 8 hour, 48 minute trip. Placing second was Alan Mulally of Ford coming in with a cost of $35.60 while driving an Escape Hybrid and consuming 20.7 gallons of gas at 27 MPG, and third was Chrysler's Bob Nardelli driving a Chrysler Aspen at a cost of $51.87 and consuming 31.5 gallons of gas at 18 MPG. In addition Cost2Drive.com determined that all three executives made the right decision and saved money by driving instead of flying as the cheapest round trip airfare found by users of Kayak.com was a $185 fare from Northwest Airlines.

"With gas prices at their lowest levels in years, there's no doubt these executives found it more cost-efficient to drive to DC this time rather than fly," stated Jim Kovarik, President and Co-founder of C2G, LLC. "If the economy continues to struggle throughout 2009, as most experts predict it will, we believe these are the types of decisions consumer will increasingly face, which is why we created www.cost2drive.com, the first site on the Internet that makes it fun and easy to determine if it's cheaper to fly or cheaper to drive anywhere in the US.

Cost2Drive receives its vehicle fuel efficiency information from www.fueleconomy.gov, a website maintained by the Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and the US Environmental Protection Agency. The MPG estimates used to arrive at the costs above assume Highway driving. To find out more please visit www.cost2drive.com.
