Atlanta financial psychologist Mary Gresham’s bi-weekly women and money meetings educate women of all kind on how to make informed decisions regarding money.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 25, 2008 –- Psychologist Mary Gresham recently began holding bi-weekly women and money meetings with the goal of helping her female-only participants become comfortable and informed about all aspects of their lives as they pertain to money.

“The group is both educational and psychological in nature,” says Gresham, “covering the basics of investing, spending, earning and planning.”

Beyond those financial-related tasks, the Atlanta-based psychologist also helps members of each group take a deeper look at their money history as well as their family history to identify psychological issues that may be hindering them as they try to learn and adopt effective money behaviors.

According to Gresham, the topic of women and money is a diverse one. “Unfortunately, too many women have been taught to turn over their money lives to someone else. They lose the opportunity to gain self-esteem, and they lose the ability to protect their own interests,” she says.

As an experienced financial psychologist, Gresham helps group members identify the money values that they wish to practice in their daily lives, so that their spending begins to reflect what they truly think is important.

“Often, when the budget is analyzed,” says Gresham, “spending does not really reflect a person’s own philosophy of life.”

After conducting extensive research on issues regarding woman and money, Dr. Gresham concluded that the use of small, same-sex groups oriented around personal relationships and sharing is the best method. This grouping is supported by literature in psychology for helping women learn new behaviors in areas that may be intimidating to them. Gresham says that the use of these kinds of groups has been shown to be the most effective method to teach mathematical and computer skills and that it also works well for financial issues.

Dr. Gresham’s women and money seminars occur on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The minimum number of members is four, and the maximum is six. Cost is $65 per person and the minimum requirement is a three-month commitment. Dr. Gresham conducts a screening interview with each potential member to be certain that the seminar is right for her.

Dr. Mary Gresham is a Georgia native who attended Tulane University, Emory University and Georgia State University to receive her training and her doctorate in clinical psychology. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and is a fellow of the Georgia Psychological Association, where she sits on the board of the Division of Women Psychologists and also serves on the Continuing Education Committee.

Prospective members of the women and money group may contact the office of psychologist Mary Gresham for a screening interview at 404-320-6520 or visit www.doctorgresham.com.
