National Conference to Feature David and Nic Sheff on Recovery from Addictions

This year's annual mental health and addictions conference hosted by The National Council will focus on recovery and transformation as Nic and David Sheff share their experiences with the effects of methamphetamines and drug addiction.

Rockville, MD (PRWEB) February 29, 2008 -- This year's annual mental health and addiction conference hosted by The National Council will focus on recovery and transformation as Nic and David Sheff share their experiences with the effects of methamphetamines and drug addiction.

The 38th National Council Conference, which takes place in Boston, May 1 -- May 3, will cover the latest issues facing the mental health and addiction services industry. The National Council, a not-for-profit association representing 1,400 behavioral healthcare organizations, will focus the conference curriculum around recovery and transformation.

These personal stories help depict the true impact that mental illnesses and addictions have on individuals, families and societies. Scheduled throughout the conference, these sessions will help raise awareness of mental illnesses and addictions as treatable health conditions.
Linda Rosenberg, President and CEO of the National Council for Community Behavioral Health, said "This year's National Council Annual Conference brings together members of the mental and behavioral health community to discuss our industry's most vital issues. We are elated to have Nic and David Sheff share their compelling stories of drug addiction and healing. With Nic and David we will explore the pain of addiction as well as the road to recovery for the individual and also the family."

Nic Sheff and David Sheff, are among of the many mental health and addictions experts, who will present their personal stories of recovery. Nic, author of "Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines" and David, author of "Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Meth Addiction" have previously been featured on the TODAY show and as the subject of a recent New York Times article.

Rosenberg added, "These personal stories help depict the true impact that mental illnesses and addictions have on individuals, families and societies. Scheduled throughout the conference, these sessions will help raise awareness of mental illnesses and addictions as treatable health conditions."

Other National Council conference featured speakers include, James Carville, Jim Collins, Dr. Mark McClellan, Kitty and Michael Dukakis, Simon T.
