Ex Police Officer Pioneers New Web Based Health Initiative

Ex Police Officer Trevor Hoskisson has just launched a new company, Health Coaching UK, (http://www.healthcoachinguk.com), aimed at improving the health of the nation. Health Coaching is targeted specifically at improving all aspects of health and fitness using the proven techniques and strategies that make internet based Health Coaching one of the newest, fastest growing, and most effective health improving techniques available.
Health Coaching is not a substitute for medical care and clients may be asked to contact their doctor before entering into an aggressive health coaching programme

Taunton, Somerset, UK (PRWEB) March 12, 2008 -- Trevor Hoskisson, a former police officer, who suffered head and neck injuries in the line of duty which led to his medical retirement, is now pioneering a new initiative to promote healthy living and provide the means whereby this can be simply achieved by virtually anybody. His technique is to use a combination of health education and health & fitness strategies, presented in a coaching environment with the aid of an interactive website (http://www.healthcoachingu.com) that assesses, educates, motivates, and keeps track of the progress made by the client. This differs from many other health enhancing schemes because the client decides what action to take and sets their own pace, but is accountable to the coach for producing results. It's this accountability that sets coaching apart and enables participants to get almost "magical" results.

Following his medical discharge Trevor's ill health continued with constant back pain, neck pain and almost daily migraines. He received some of the best medical treatment available and tried numerous alternative therapies but nothing really helped. He was unable to drive, or travel, or to sit for longer than a few minutes. This situation continued for 6 years until he learned the principles of coaching and he started to apply coaching techniques in his own life. These techniques included setting goals, and taking small steps each day to achieve those goals. He also leant how to control his thoughts so he no longer dwelt on the pain and the negative consequences of what had happened.

In the U.K. 80% of the population will suffer back pain at some time in their life. Five million working days are lost each year due to back pain alone. In 2002 8,206 people suffered musculoskeletal injuries at work that required specialist intervention. 21.8% of the population of England is obese making it the third fattest nation in the world. Only Mexico (24.2%) and the USA (30.6%) exceed England. Death rates from liver disease and cirrhosis have increased markedly since the 1990s and are now above the EU average. In 2004 there were 233,621 incidences of cancer reported in the UK. In 2005 there were 126,246 deaths from cancer, 171,021 deaths from cardio vascular disease and 67,905 deaths from respiratory disease. Smoking still accounts for 1 in 6 to 1 in 10 deaths in England. More people now consider themselves in poor health than in the mid 1990s. 26% of adults smoke. 18.2% binge drink, whilst only 23.8% of adults eat healthily and only 11.6% are physically active. Some doctors would say that 33% of illnesses are lifestyle related, while other doctors are convinced that as much as 80% of illness starts on dinner plate.

Trevor believes that Health Coaching is the only answer to the growing health crisis. A recent Yale study showed that "Coaching is a highly effective and superior strategy in reducing total cholesterol and other coronary risk factors such as blood pressure, compared to patients who were prescribed medication but not coached."

"Whilst most coaching is done face to face or over the telephone, health coaching is particularly suited to web based technology" explains Trevor. "Clients have 24/7 access from home or any other computer in the world; it's simple to use; its easy to contact your coach, you don't have to wait until the next scheduled appointment; there is on line journaling, goal setting and progress tracking tools available; and there are numerous online assessments for calculating for example, your risk of getting bowel cancer or determining your Ayurvedic Profile. One of the best features is the Fitness Planner which is like a virtual personal trainer and has the benefit of allowing clients to train at home to get in shape and avoid the often perceived embarrassment of going to the gym until they have made some progress."

Trevor is keen to point out the internet does not entirely replace the role of the coach who will still spend two or three thirty minute telephone sessions with the client each month. "Health is personal to each individual and therefore each person needs to be assessed individually and a customised programme created to help the client achieve their goals at a pace that is right for them" said Trevor.

"Health Coaching is not a substitute for medical care and clients may be asked to contact their doctor before entering into an aggressive health coaching programme" warned Trevor.

Trevor has a vision for a countrywide network of Health Coaches to counter the growing health crisis in the UK and to bring an end to front page headlines like "Heart Risk Rises for Live Now Generation." (Times February 25th 2008). Anyone who has a health related back ground and is passionate about helping others should contact Trevor to discuss training as a Health Coach.
