U.S. Patent Office Grants CVPS a Broadening of Original Patent for Digital Camera Valet Lane Applications

News that CVPS's original patent application for digital image capture to assess the condition of a vehicle before and after its parked has been broadened to include any vehicle that is parked, regardless of valet, and all devices that may be used to capture the image.

Glenhaven, CA (PRWEB) March 14, 2008 -- CVPS just received news that its application to broaden the original patent (#6630893) has been examined and allowed by the U.S. Patent Office. The patent includes over 63 claims covering the method of capturing the pre-existing physical condition of a vehicle in order to determine the origin of damage. More importantly, it now encompasses any vehicle type, as opposed to just valet parking vehicle applications, and all devices that may be used for collecting a first set of vehicle data to associate with the vehicle images.

"... the method of linking at least one digital image of a vehicle to a first set of vehicle identification data in an electronic database, the digital image documenting a physical condition of the vehicle when the vehicle exits the parking area; retrieving the digital images from the electronic database; and determining whether damage occurred to the vehicle before or after the vehicle exited the parking area based on the digital images," claim #29.

Throughout the 2 year application review process, the U.S. Patent office also examined several claims by others, seeking to invalidate the original patent (i.e. patent #5710557 "Computerized Valet Parking System"). The examiner found no merit and voided claims of prior art, further strengthening and underlining CVPS's patent validity.

"As the inventors of today's popular computerized valet parking system concept, we have invested a lot of time and money into these innovative parking technologies that now save the industry millions of dollars every year. We are very pleased to have received intellectual property right recognition by the U.S. Patent office. This new broad patent allowance will be used to reassure the industry that we are serious about our business and will also allow us to dedicate additional resources to expand our product line," said Kai Schuette, Founder and CEO of Computerized Valet Parking Systems, Inc. and parent company, Service Tracking Systems, Inc.
