From April 11-13 Mensa gamers from across the nation will play and rate more than 50 new-to-market games

Arlington, TX (Vocus) March 25, 2008 -- April is a great time to visit Phoenix. The air is warm and dry and the desert is in bloom. But for about 200 Mensa members, the allure of Phoenix this April is not the weather or the golf, but the 19th annual Mind Games® competition. From April 11-13, these Mensa gamers from across the nation will play and rate more than 50 new-to-market games – and many of the attendees will not see the sun until the event is over. Some will choose not to sleep, some will rarely pause to eat but all will have the opportunity to enjoy some of the most original, creative, challenging and thought-provoking new games around.

Each Mensa judge will play at least 30 games in less than 48 hours and all the games will be competing to receive the honor of bearing the Mensa Select seal, which indicates that Mensa members found the game fun to play, easy to learn and a good value
The Mind Games competition is an annual event that invites game manufacturers to enter their new games to be played and rated by Mensa’s most dedicated gamers. Board games, card games, party games, games for children – the Mensan judges play them all. At the end of the weekend, the points are tallied and five games out of the group will receive the honor of bearing the Mensa Select® seal. Past Mensa Select winners include Taboo™, Scattergories™, Apples to Apples™, Hit or Miss™ and Qwirkle®.

“Each Mensa judge will play at least 30 games in less than 48 hours and all the games will be competing to receive the honor of bearing the Mensa Select seal, which indicates that Mensa members found the game fun to play, easy to learn and a good value,” said Greg Webster, chairman of this year’s competition. “Though this is an extremely fun, highly-anticipated event for Mensa’s gamers, they understand that the seal is a tool to help the general public find exciting, creative new games to play with their friends and families. They take their jobs very seriously and only award the seal to those games that truly deserve it.”

American Mensa is an organization open to anyone who scores in the top two percent on an accepted, standardized intelligence test. The organization has more than 54,000 members in the United States and more than 100,000 members around the world. For more information about Mind Games, visit www.mindgames.us.mensa.org.
