Crisp, Bright Varietal is Perfect for Spring and Summer Entertaining
My family has a long history of crafting bright, fruit-forward style wines that pair well with a variety of cuisines

Healdsburg, CA (PRWEB) April 1, 2008 -- Mirassou Winery is proud to debut its first vintage 2007 Mirassou® California Pinot Grigio this month. Balancing intense fruit flavors with delicate aromas, Mirassou's new varietal shows how refreshing a Pinot Grigio can be. It's a crisp wine that features peach and citrus flavors of lemon and lime. Mirassou's California Pinot Grigio is a bright expression of California's most celebrated growing regions. This versatile wine pairs beautifully with grilled poultry or seafood, as well as with spicy dishes like those featured in Thai and Vietnamese cuisine.

The grapes used to create the 2007 Mirassou California Pinot Grigio were sourced from several of California's finest growing regions, including the Central Coast and the Russian River Valley. The combination of both cool and warm growing regions contributes a gentle complexity to the wine's flavor profile by blending the crisp acidic fruit characters from coastal vineyards with the ripe fruit characters from the inland vineyards. The grapes were gently whole-cluster pressed to eliminate harshness, and were fermented in stainless steel tanks to retain their naturally high acidity level and contribute a fresh, crisp structure to the wine. A small amount of Sauvignon Blanc was blended with the Pinot Grigio to add subtle citrus flavors and aromas.

"My family has a long history of crafting bright, fruit-forward style wines that pair well with a variety of cuisines," said David Mirassou, sixth-generation member of the Mirassou family. "I can't think of a more versatile varietal to add to our portfolio of premium wines - with its clean, crisp and refreshing finish, it's the perfect wine for sipping out on the patio with friends and family."

An interesting note on the grape used for this varietal: Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris are actually the same. In Italy, the grape is referred to as "Pinot Grigio," and in France, "Pinot Gris." In general, California wines tend to be Pinot Grigio, while in Oregon and Washington, they are Pinot Gris. The differentiating factor is the winemaking style and approach to the grape, rather than the name of the grape.

The 2007 Mirassou California Pinot Grigio retails for approximately $10 a bottle. Mirassou's family of premium varietals - Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon - are widely available in all 50 states and can be located through the "Where to Buy" section at www.mirassou.com.
