New Children's Book Reveals our Most Valuable Treasures are Found in Each Other

A new children's book from Outskirts Press author and illustrator Sally H. Taylor instills an important lesson on the value of love to dispel fear and intolerance in "The Most Valuable Treasure."

Denver, CO and Watertown, NY (PRWEB) April 11, 2008 -- Overcoming fear of the unknown--and the renewal of faith in the human spirit--is at the heart of "The Most Valuable Treasure," a new children's book from author and illustrator Sally H. Taylor. Just released from Outskirts Press and now available through the author's Web site at www.outskirtspress.com/themostvaluabletreasure, this gorgeous full-color book delivers a message of kindness and understanding to young readers.

In a small rural village, townspeople live in harmony. But fear hovers over a mysterious, rickety old house on the village's outskirts. Rumor has it witches and trolls inhabit the place--although no one seems to know anything about who really resides there. Then, a young boy falls into a well near the home. When someone from the house comes to his rescue, the boy's mother decides to offer kindness in return.

What she discovers is perhaps more disturbing than any ghost or goblin: An isolated old woman, living alone in fear and squalor. But soon, the entire village chooses compassion over fear, extending a helping hand to the home's enigmatic resident. The result brings about an amazing new level of trust and sharing among them all--and reveals the astonishing reason for the woman's seclusion.

Taylor's rich pen-and-watercolor illustrations marvelously evoke the village residents and their environment. Readers are sure to lose themselves examining the detail of bucolic farms, spooky trolls--and, of course--the mysterious house. Through it all, what emerges is an important lesson that's appropriate for readers of any age: That the remedy for selfishness is love, which casts out all fear.

"Love, like fear, is an attitude we can choose either to entertain or not," Taylor says. "We can choose to love as easily as we can choose to fear, and where our heart is our treasure will be also."

"The Most Valuable Treasure" is now available through Ingram, Baker & Taylor, Amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and the online bookstore of Outskirts Press, at outskirtspress.com/store.php.
