Portland, OR (PRWEB) April 18, 2008 -- Chavers Corporation announces the launch of Smokers ALERT®, The World's First Intelligent Ashtray, at the Tobacco Plus Expo '08 in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 24, 2008. Smokers ALERT® is a microprocessor controlled ashtray that has been designed and engineered to deal specifically with fire risks associated with smoker's carelessness. It provides reliable early detection and advanced warning of fires caused by smoker's carelessness. Sixty-five percent of all reported home fire deaths in 2000-2004 resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or working smoke alarms. (NFPA April 2007)

Tony Montgomery, inventor of Smokers ALERT® and President of Chavers Corporation, explains that "The differentiating characteristic of this product is that being mobile, it is placed closer to the likely source of fire, typically an unattended smoldering cigarette, space heater too close to furniture, unattended candles, cooking fires, etc., thus providing early warning improving the chances that loved ones survive by giving them the opportunity to escape quickly."

"Since getting the smoke alarm ashtray, I feel much safer in my home." says John Wells, of Lebanon, Oregon. "I like the fact that you can take it to any room in the house and know that you are protected by a smoke alarm. In fact, I am going to use it in my motor home this summer when camping season starts."

In 2006 371 billion cigarettes were consumed in the United States alone. With over 45 million smokers in the United States alone, and 3,000 people developing the smoking habit every day, Montgomery expects sales to exceed the projected 60,000 units annually.
