Round Two of the Oregon Region Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) championship is underway this weekend at Portland International Raceway.

Portland, OR (PRWEB) April 19, 2008 -- Round Two of the Oregon Region Sports Car Club of America championship is underway this weekend at Portland International Raceway. The Neil Swanson Memorial Regional Races are for area drivers competing in categories ranging from exotic purpose-built sports racers and open-wheel formula cars, to GT, sedan and vintage cars.

This weekend also marks the second event in the Pro Drive Spec Racer Ford (SRF) Championship.

Leading the way after last month's first race of the season in the Pro Drive SRF Championship is Portland's Todd Harris, followed by Dan Halloran, also of Portland, and West Linn's Steve Fogg. The SRF is an enclosed wheel, open cockpit, purpose built race car powered by a Ford 1.9 liter, hemispherical head, four cylinder engine. It is one of the most popular and closely contested classes in the Sports Car Club of America.

Another hotly contested and popular class in this season's championship is Spec Miata. March race winner Ken Sutherland of Sherwood, OR, is looking to improve on his points lead over Portland's Gary Bockman and West Linn's Bruce Wilson.

Porsches lead the way in the ITE Class with Portland's Keith Jones in first, followed by Seattle's Val Korry and Aloha, OR's Earl Green. The PCA4 class for Porsches is a Washington affair for now, with Redmond's Jim Robison leading Seattle's Jim Bushnell and Kirkland's Scott Powell.

Vintage race groups are also on hand this weekend, with Seattle's Jim Bushnell leading VP2 in a Porsche, Kennewick, WA's Michial Shumate on top with his Titan Formula Ford in VFSR, Robert Dustan of Allyn, WA, leading the points in VP1 with his Lotus Europa, and Robert Macherione of Eugene, OR, in first with his Austin in the VP3 class.

Qualifying begins Saturday at 1:15 p.m. with racing beginning Sunday at 9 a.m. Admission and parking are free, courtesy of Fluge Global Adventures.

All eight Oregon Region SCCA events counting towards class championships take place at the newly repaved Portland International Raceway. Portland International Raceway is owned and operated by the City of Portland through its bureau of Parks and Recreation. The raceway is operated as an Enterprise Fund, meaning that its operating expenses and capital improvements are covered by the revenues that it generates, as Portland International Raceway receives no general fund tax dollars. The raceway's varied, year round activities bring between 30 and 40 million dollars into the surrounding community each year.
