Whitesburg Elementary in Georgia implemented CompassLearning in 2003 and by 2007 was outperforming all schools in the county.

Austin, TX (Vocus) May 2, 2008 -- Whitesburg Elementary School in Carroll County, GA continuously ended up on the state's "Needs Improvement" list each year. When the school teamed up with CompassLearning, it found its way off the list and subsequently outperformed all other schools in Carroll County.

Principal Joyce Davis first implemented CompassLearning Odyssey in 2003 as a pilot program. The school's goal: to improve student performance on Georgia's state test, the Criterion Referenced Competency Test (CRCT). Davis and her curriculum specialist worked with Odyssey to pinpoint and address their weaknesses on the CRCT. Additionally, Odyssey's assessment tools identified specific skills students needed to improve on.

Our mission as a company is to collaborate with school and districts to facilitate this kind of student success
"We began making AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) immediately after the first year of using CompassLearning," says Davis. "We have been meeting or exceeding that goal ever since."

By 2007, Whitesburg Elementary outperformed all city and county schools in third-grade reading and fifth-grade reading and math scores. Today, the school also uses CompassLearning Odyssey to establish baseline scores for students and monitor their progress throughout the year.

"Our mission as a company is to collaborate with school and districts to facilitate this kind of student success," says CompassLearning President Eric Loeffel. "A critical factor that leads to results like those demonstrated at Whitesburg Elementary is the strong support of everyone involved from the classroom teacher to the school and district-level administrators."
