(PRWEB) May 5, 2008 -- This week former Jack Welch speechwriter, Bill Lane, officially launches the "Welch-a-Day Website" (http://www.BillLane.org). Visitors to this new site will find a new, brief excerpt from Lane's new book, JACKED UP: The Inside Story of How Jack Welch Talked GE into Becoming the World's Greatest Company published every business day for one month.

Excerpts highlight the most startling facets of the book that famed business blogger, Tom Peters, says "tells a remarkable story about one guy wrestling a ten-thousand ton rabid gorilla to the ground."

He told me after my last baby: 'No More Babies. That's it. Understand?'
Included are Welch anecdotes on:

RACE: "I need to talk to some black people about this whole O.J. thing."

BRANDING: One Wednesday morning, shortly after the housewares sale to Black and Decker had been announced, he asked me what my 'bowling guys' thought of it.

WOMEN: "…I'm Pregnant"
"Congratulations," [Bill said to this young mom.
"Yeah, but I haven't told Jack yet."
"What do you mean?"
"He told me after my last baby: 'No More Babies. That's it. Understand?'"

MANAGEMENT: "It's okay to stand up and say 'We screwed up. Here's what we did wrong. Don't you do this! Here's what we learned.'"

The website, http://www.BillLane.org, a joint effort between the author; his publisher, McGraw-Hill; and Planned Television Arts is scheduled to run a new excerpt every business day from Monday, May 5 through Monday, June 2.

JACKED UP (McGraw-Hill, January 2008), an unparalleled business manual and a riveting look at one of America's most aggressive corporate cultures, is in bookstores now. Bill Lane is available for email interviews with business bloggers and via phone for podcasters.

BILL LANE joined GE as a speechwriter in 1980, after seven years at the Pentagon. From 1982 to 2001, he was Manager, Executive Communications for the company, and Jack Welch's speechwriter.
