New York, NY (PRWEB) May 8, 2008 -- A bold presence on the internet is mandatory for any small and medium size business. Yet, there's often fears concerning the expenses, skill sets required and finesse needed to accomplish a successful presence. This article gives a few basic tips to alleviate such fears and get started.

"Clients always have tight website budgets," notes Skot Kremen, web designer for CyberSecure Technologies Inc. (www.cybersecuretech.com).

Clients always have tight website budgets
Kremen suggests, "a simple template as a guide." This guide is a basic primer:

  • Purpose?
  • Know the purpose that your website is supposed to serve. For example, during website construction for an informational site, do you know what categories you want to have? If it's a commerce site, do you know what you'd like to sell and are you prepared for delivery? Kremen feels that this is the most important step in the process.
  • Is it critical to use a web designer?
  • The answer may be no and yes. A good web designer has vast experience and can actually cut time as well as expense because he/she knows what is possible. A good web designer can translate ideas into internet savvy results thereby integrating the right look with the content. A web designer should give you a well designed website, and it should come with a CD or upload to your service provider.
  • Have your content ready
  • Have real content set before website construction starts. Build a site map to show the pages of the site, and how they connect to each other, allowing all the content to be built into the base design of the site. If you don't have content prior to web construction, the content becomes an afterthought. This results in a more expensive project fraught with wasted time.
  • What should I look for in Hosting?
  • Think of hosting as a rental home for your website. The space is rented by the month along with a package of services. At this point decide what's important for your site. For instance, do you need some place to sell a product? Do you need specialized email addresses? How much space is your website going to require? Always investigate their offerings carefully before choosing a package that's right for you.
  • Will my website be optimized for search engines?
  • Search engines such as Google and Yahoo are designed to help the public find your site. This asks the question of "How do I get my site to rank on these search engines?" Certain web design packages will include basic search engine ranking while others will not. "Investigate search engine optimization components such as keywords when building a website," said Bob Schmid, President of CyberSecure Technologies Inc. (www.cybersecuretech.com). For more information on search engine optimization go to www.newmedia.org.
  • How will I update my website?
This depends on what you'd like to update. Using built in interfaces for updating is simpler than dealing with code. Text is easier to change than images.
