Naval Sea Systems Command awarded Unmanned Ocean Vehicles, Inc. a Phase II STTR Development Contract for design and testing of an Energy Scavenging Unmanned Surface Vehicle.

(PRWEB) May 11, 2008 -- Unmanned Ocean Vehicles, Inc. is pleased to announce it has been awarded a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Program Phase II Research and Development contract to develop an Energy Scavenging Unmanned Surface Vehicle. The contract is sponsored by the Naval Sea Systems Command, SEA 05.

This contract is the first part of an eighteen month effort to complete a detailed design of an open ocean unlimited endurance autonomous surface vehicle for ocean surveillance and other unmanned, long dwell time missions. The contract utilizes the company's proprietary technology currently residing on a fully functional twenty foot engineering development model to aggressively advance the development and to complete critical item testing within the first year.

The company is pleased to be teaming with the Engineering Department of Villanova University, located just outside Philadelphia, PA, and Trident Systems, Inc., a leading developmental technology application company with its world headquarters in Fairfax, VA. This contract will allow Villanova University to utilize and expand its Navy funded research and development in unmanned systems control and energy management technology. Trident Systems, Inc. will provide its proven experience in hardware design, rugged C4ISR technology, and sensor systems that is servicing various military clients.

The contract further demonstrates the engagement of the US Navy in using energy scavenging unmanned vehicle technology to achieve persistent ocean presence and surveillance for both surface and submersible applications.
