Salem, Oregon (PRWEB) May 22, 2008 -- The Court at Round Rock (the Court) is a 142-unit retirement and assisted living community located in Round Rock, Texas. The Court is unique because it has made great efforts to facilitate connection with the Round Rock community - particularly the local schools. It has on-going activities with Forest Creek Elementary School, Hopewell Middle School and Stony Point High School.
The Court was recently selected as 2008 Partner of the Year by Stony Point High School in Round Rock. Each high school in the district was asked to select who had the most impact on student achievement throughout the most recent school year. Stony Point students selected the residents and staff of the Court at Round Rock while cooperating in the Partners in Education Program.
This program allows a group of cheerful, hard working students to volunteer 2 or 3 days per week at the assisted living community helping with resident meals, light gardening and other activities. The residents love the cheerful attitudes and youthful spirit of these students. Staff and residents of the Court at Round Rock will receive their award at the 2008 Partnership Appreciation Breakfast held at the Round Rock Independent School District Performing Arts Center on May 20th.
The Court is also working with several middle and elementary schools in the area. Hopewell Middle School has an eighth grade class that adopted the community and sends 10 to 12 students to volunteer at the Court once a month. Forest Creek Elementary School has a fourth grade class participating in a Pen Pal Program where groups of 2-3 students are paired with a resident to compile the resident's life history. The students and residents then trade visits - students visiting the assisted living community and residents visiting the school. During these visits, the students work to compile a book of the resident's life history and present it to them at the end of the class in a special ceremony. This is a very rewarding experience for both the residents and the young students and is another example of Sunwest Management living out its mission - caring people serving residents to enhance their quality of life.
