St. Louis (PRWEB) June 3, 2008 -- On Thursday, May 22, the St. Louis chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) honored The Doe Run Company for communications excellence. Among 94 entries submitted for the 2008 Bronze Quill awards, ''Neighbors - The Doe Run Company's 2006 Report to Our Communities'' collected one of only 17 Excellence awards. Doe Run initiated the 20-page annual community report, ''Neighbors,'' in 2003 to share with communities its successes, challenges and environmental performance, along with education about the company's primary product, lead.

We're proud of what we do, and we felt it was important to talk about lead in a very real and transparent way, especially since it's so critical to modern conveniences like cell phones and car batteries
"We're proud of what we do, and we felt it was important to talk about lead in a very real and transparent way, especially since it's so critical to modern conveniences like cell phones and car batteries," said Angie Nations, Doe Run's community relations manager, who oversees the production of ''Neighbors.'' "Over the years, we've been able to create a reader-friendly, magazine-like report that keeps our important audiences turning the pages. We are thrilled to be recognized for what we consider to be one of our most important communication pieces."

Doe Run selects ''Neighbors'' stories annually based on response card feedback, company milestones and key community relations programs. ''Neighbors'' was overhauled and expanded in 2006 to cover global activities, environmental efforts, recycling and end products. Informational vignettes included ''Public Dialogue: Working for One Goal,'' featuring ongoing partnerships and progress at facilities worldwide; ''Managing a Lifecycle,'' highlighting Doe Run's role in the lead lifecycle as one of a few North American facilities accepting and recovering lead from cathode ray tube glass; and ''The Softer Side,'' discussing metals and emerging alloys inside household appliances, cosmetics, Pepto-Bismol® and other ''softer'' products.

Other IABC Quill winners included Graybar, Monsanto, Express Scripts and MasterCard. To read ''Neighbors'' in its entirety, visit http://www.doerun.com/about/reports.aspx.
