Today Birdstep Technology announced the latest release of its popular embedded database, RDM Embedded version 8.1. This latest release includes new features like in-memory replication and a enhanced administration API. The free SDK can be downloaded from the Birdstep Technology Website.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) July 2, 2008 -- Birdstep Technology (OSE: BIRD) today announced the release of version 8.1 of its Raima Database Manager Embedded also known as RDM Embedded.

RDM Embedded 8.1

This is the latest release from the Raima Database Management Family providing exciting new capabilities and functionality for embedded systems application developers. Below are a few of the new features released in RDM Embedded 8.1:

In-Memory Replication--provides a new level of high availability and performance. This new functionality provides the ability for RAM or persistent data to be replicated to any storage media locally or over a network. The replication engine is designed to support single master multi slave environments, where any slave can act as a master to a new set of slaves, implementing a hierarchy of replicated database instances.

Native 64 bit data type--compliant with the C99 standard data types, application designers can manage their 64 bit integers natively through the RDM Embedded database definition language, and API's.

Enhanced Administration API--adding to the already comprehensive administrative API, additional utility functions have been added to the API allowing developers to programmatically perform administrative tasks that were traditionally done by standalone tools. The result being the ability to develop self-administrating applications based on a truly "zero administration" database engine.

Static Library Support--provides the ability to build both dynamic and static libraries expanding the opportunity to develop applications for deployment on RTOS platforms that do not currently support shared objects. Additionally, the use of static libraries reduces the amount of deployment code which is important for applications deployed in high volumes.

Full UNICODE support on UNIX platforms--provides application developers the ability to create truly language independent applications on UNIX platforms.

Dynamic Point-Of-Interest example--shows how navigation vendors can efficiently solve multi-dimensional indexing problems, like point-of-interests (POI) in GIS applications, using an existing one-dimensional indexing system commonly found in off-the-shelf solutions.

About The Raima Database Manager Family
Raima released the first version of the Raima embedded database in 1984. Since then the family has grown into three successful embedded database products. RDM Embedded pioneered the embedded market space under the name dbVista. Building on the success of RDM Embedded, Raima released the product in a client/server configuration under the name Velocis, now called RDM Server. Augmenting the two is RDM Mobile, ideally suited for consumer electronics and low cost mobile devices such as set-top boxes, mp3 players etc. Please find free SDK downloads of the RDM Products at http://www.birdstep.com/database/downloads/
