More Air Freight Services and Motor Freight Trucking Firms are Going Green

FreightBrokering.info, an online firm that specializes in the freight broker industry, is seeing an increase in the number of freight shipping firms making environmentally friendly changes.

Carlsbad, CA (PRWEB) July 5, 2008 -- More freight shippers and brokers are making changes in their policies to be more environmentally conscious, according to FreightBrokering.info. The Web site, which specializes in providing information and resources about freight shipping and the freight broker industry, is pleasantly surprised to see more businesses in this field going green.

Some freight shipping firms started making minor changes after the Environmental Protection Agency implemented the "Smartway Transport Partnership" as a voluntary program a few years ago to educate, motivate and improve the industry. The initiative aims to reduce between 33 and 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide (NO2) emissions per year by 2012. In the last year, however, more air freight services and motor freight trucking firms have been going out of their way to make improvements that reduce their fuel consumption.

For a freight broker or shipper to be considered a member of the Smartway Transport Partnership, the Environmental Protection Agency states that they must do the following:

  • Measure the environmental performance of existing operations (motor freight trucking companies use the FLEET Performance Model to measure performance)
  • Identify a goal to improve the environmental performance of operations
  • Develop a plan detailing how the goal will be achieved
  • Report progress annually to the Environmental Protection Agency.

FreightBrokering.info is pleased to see so many freight broker and freight shipping companies doing their best to make an impact on the environment, even if their motivations are to save money due to the increased costs of fuel.
