Staying on Cutting Edge More Important than Ever as Mobile Phone Payment Processing Could be In Future

A1 Merchant Accounts, a leading online merchant account service network, is considering the possibility of credit card processing using consumers' mobile phones in the future.

Carlsbad, CA (PRWEB) July 13, 2008 -- The future of credit card processing continues to look bright, as mobile phones that can be used to pay for purchases are currently being tested. A1 Merchant Accounts, an online network of merchant account service providers in the United States, sees this as an opportunity to stay on the cutting edge of payment processing technologies.

This mobile phone payment processing system, called near field communication (NFC), is currently being tested by Etisalat and Emirates NBD. The credit card processing system works by using radio frequency identification (RFID) chips that are rooted within cellular phone SIM cards. The RFID chips transmit account information to a contactless store terminal that reads the signal and deducts payment. As a merchant account service leader, A1 Merchant Accounts sees this prospective technology as a possible trend in the future that consumers and businesses should keep their eyes on.

If the mobile phone payment processing system that is currently being tested does in fact become widely accepted, it will allow consumers to leave their credit cards at home and go shopping with nothing more than their mobile phones. Combining credit card processing with cellular technology makes sense because people already use their mobile phones to access account information and transfer funds. Consumers would be able to upload their bank information onto their phone's SIM card and simply swipe their phones near a store's contactless payment terminal to make payments. A code may be required for payments over a certain amount, however, to provide more consumer security.
