Technology Will Aid in Facial Recognition Efforts
Our face-creation technology gives you the 3D head, or avatar, which allows users to quickly correlate with other stored images coming in from the field.

Conway, N.H. (PRWEB) July 17, 2008 -- Animetrics Inc. today announced that it has completed the first stage of integrating its 3D Face Viewer software into the United States Army Biometric Automated Toolset (BAT) system. This project will incorporate 2D-to-3D, patent-pending technology into the BAT system, which is used by the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Center's Language and Technology Office, located at Fort Huachuca, Ariz.

BAT is a state-of-the-art, multi-biometric system developed for force protection and intelligence. Today the system is protecting American assets in a number of different theaters of operation. Animetrics' 2Dto3D technology, available in its FORENSICA product, makes it possible to create a three-dimensional image from a two-dimensional picture. This allows users to view individuals that are deemed high-value in a three dimensional view, permitting quicker and more accurate identification of persons of interest.

"Facial recognition has always been challenged by the quality of images in a given database," said Paul Schuepp, CEO of Animetrics. "Our face-creation technology gives you the 3D head, or avatar, which allows users to quickly correlate with other stored images coming in from the field."

The BAT system today serves the Army and Marine Corps abroad in helping to identify high interest subjects and Animetrics 2D to 3D technology will allow our intelligence officers to better visualize persons of interest in theaters of operation," said Kathy Debolt, Deputy Director of Forensics and Biometrics for the U.S. Army, Fort Huachuca.

The 3D Face Viewer now being deployed within the U.S. Army's BAT system is the base level for enhancing the more than one million entries on the BAT face-watch list with future 2D-to-3D face recognition capability.

Fort Huachuca is one of the primary training centers for interrogation techniques and data collection. Intelligence personnel trained at the Arizona base are stationed in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Animetrics Inc., headquartered in Conway, N.H., is a leading developer of 3D imaging for facial biometric systems. The Animetrics90 product family is based on the company's core algorithms comprised of five patent-pending, 2D-to-3D face-creation technologies, allowing for pose and lighting invariant face recognition across a broad range of operating conditions. This breakthrough technology forms the basis for Animetrics next-generation three-dimensional facial recognition applications. Animetrics is driving market acceptance of facial recognition biometrics in government, homeland security and law enforcement applications. For more information visit www.animetrics.com
