OregonLive.com announces redesign and new features.
make sure users can easily find the content they're looking for

Portland, OR (PRWEB) September 4, 2008 -- Just in time for the high school football season and the new school year, OregonLive.com, the leading local source of real-time news, information and interactivity, has been redesigned to make its wealth of in-depth content easier to find and use. With over one million unique users per month*, the 11-year-old Web site provides a wide range of news and information that Oregon residents need every day. A site this comprehensive required an interface that streamlines navigation and provides an intuitive path to multi-levels of content.

The clean and attractive redesign is easy on the eyes. It is a look that helps visitors quickly find what they want, including the latest local news, sports and weather. Opportunities to share comments, photos and videos also are easier to find and use, making participation in the local online community fun and effortless. The new home page serves as a guide to the extensive information on the site, with news, sports and weather right at the top of the page. A new navigation bar allows visitors to easily navigate to Real-Time News, Sports, Weather, Entertainment, Jobs, Autos, Real Estate, Classifieds, Interact, Business, and Living.

The site redesign was driven primarily by feedback from users . The OregonLive.com redesign team included experts in usability, search engine optimization and Web design; their objective was to "make sure users can easily find the content they're looking for," according to Ben Sherman, Editor-in-Chief of OregonLive.com. "We achieved this by offering consistent navigation and more search options right on the home page."

The home page of OregonLive.com is an illustrated site index to the topical content. As an example, high school, college and professional sports fans can instantly find the latest information on the school, sport, team or player they are interested in. Each section of the home page offers this level of choice and flexibility.

Weather, located on the upper right, provides a quick local update, a video forecast and links to live radar and satellite maps. In the case of extreme weather, the Weather tab will turn red, immediately alerting the viewer to a storm or other hazard. Section-specific navigation in sections like Classifieds and Entertainment is driven by robust databases of local listings and events, returning the most relevant and valuable results to the site visitor.

Community interaction is one of the most attractive new features of the OregonLive.com home page. Users can easily find the stories with the most comments and join the conversation. Additional interactive elements include photo and video galleries, contests and community blogs, which are linked directly from the home page.

Affiliated with the area's leading newspaper, The Oregonian, OregonLive.com has continually been a leader in employing the latest technology and providing the most current local news.
