Adaptive Marketing provides valuable wellness tips to help employees beat negative stress.

Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) May 5, 2008 -- Adaptive Marketing LLC, an industry leader in membership programs, knows that stress affects people in both positive and negative ways. Stress is positive when it energizes the person and stimulates ideas and performance. But stress can take a negative toll when it rises to a level that no longer stimulates creative thinking, but instead causes frustration.

As Adaptive Marketing reports, the negative effects of stress are indeed taking the best out of many employees. Stress is directly related to low performance, irritability, and dissatisfaction. Many studies even point to stress as a leading cause of rising healthcare costs! Fortunately, there are some practical ways to beat stress during the workday, including the ones recommended here by Adaptive Marketing LLC:

--Eat right. Particularly unpleasant signs of stress include an upset stomach and a state of nervousness that causes many people to eat too much, binge on candy or coffee, or simply not eat at all for hours. A balanced, nutritious diet is another tool to fight stress. Add more fruits and vegetables to meals, avoid vending-machine goodies, take vitamins, and cut down on caffeine, alcohol and smoking.

--Work out. Exercise is one of the best ways to reduce stress. Exercise not only improves health, it also relaxes tense muscles, improves blood flow to the brain, and releases endorphins, a chemical substance that produces a feeling of happiness and well-being. Use the lunch hour to go to the gym, do yoga, or go running or walking for 20 or 30 minutes. What's important is that each person does something they like and creates a regular workout routine in the morning or after work.

--Tune off work. Today's technologies make it more difficult for people to leave work at the office. Many people stress themselves by checking their emails or PDAs every two minutes, simply because they can't resist the urge to answer immediately. Learn to "unplug" from work when at home or on vacation; if that's not enough, simply make it a point to turn off all electronic devices for a couple of hours every day.

--Manage time. Make a prioritized list of the things to be done during the eight-hour workday. Organization and teamwork are great ways to tackle the responsibilities of work without stressing out too much. Talk to the team when things get hectic, and don't hesitate to talk to upper management when the workload gets tough.

Top performers are those people who deal with stress by learning how to respond to tense situations instead of letting the situation control them, reports Adaptive Marketing.
