Springfield is setting an example that we would encourage all local and national school systems to follow.
Cambridge Credit Counseling Corp. will help to provide resources, lessons, and training to the School-to-Career Department in order to proactively facilitate students' understanding about credit, debt, money management, interest, loans, and the United States economy. High school students in Springfield will learn how to write a check, balance a budget, and differentiate between checking and savings accounts, among other activities and lessons.

"We applaud the proactive approach the School-to-Career Department of the Springfield Public School System has chosen to employ in educating its students regarding the financial challenges that await them," stated Christopher Viale, President and CEO of Cambridge Credit Counseling Corp. "Springfield is setting an example that we would encourage all local and national school systems to follow."

Cambridge uses two informational websites to explain the fundamentals of personal finance. The first, www.goodpayer.com , is home to a wide array of articles of financial interest. Another site, www.learnnoworpaylater.com , offers its own articles and quizzes on the fundamentals of personal finance, and also contains units on the psychology of spending and an electronic budgeting feature.

"Financial literacy is one of the most important skills we can provide to our students as part of a comprehensive career development education curriculum," stated Mary Kay Brown, the Springfield Public Schools' School-to-Career Administrator. Springfield's School-to Career curriculum provides students with the skills and training they need to succeed in school, in higher education, in their careers, and in the community. This collaboration will prepare students for employment, lifelong learning, and personal success.
