Providing a thorough analysis of the environmental friendliness of different papers and other materials used for photographic printing, the Green-in-Print™ review concludes that 100% cotton paper represents the most environmentally friendly choice.

(Vocus) May 1, 2008 -- “Organizations and photographers that have made the environment their primary focus may feel that their credibility risks are being undermined when they mount exhibits or market an environmental message using C-Prints, backlit Duratrans prints, or any other of the less environmentally friendly technologies in situations where greener alternatives are available.”

This review will allow them to make more informed choices when printing and choosing photographs for exhibition or sale.

Providing a thorough analysis of the environmental friendliness of different papers and other materials used for photographic printing, the review concludes that 100% cotton paper represents the most environmentally friendly choice.

A Green-in-Print™ rating scale is provided allowing manufacturers to rate their papers on a scale from 0 to 5 trees according to their environmental friendliness. On this scale, 100% cotton papers are rated as the most desirable (5 trees), while C-Prints and other plastics achieve the lowest scores (0 trees).

“We hear a lot of talk about museums and galleries all claiming to be ‘green,’” says Dr Zammit-Lucia. “This review will allow them to make more informed choices when printing and choosing photographs for exhibition or sale.”

The review urges manufacturers to move beyond general statements about environmental policies towards clear product labeling. Manufacturers are invited to use the Green-in-Print™ rating scale.

“Most manufacturers are nowadays very keen to improve the environmental impact of their products,” says Fran Price, Director of Forest Certification Programs at The Nature Conservancy. “This review can help them improve their environmental performance.”
