Local Mom and author launches a series of books to teach young children about the power of their thoughts in a fun and interactive way
This series of short stories are both fun and transformational. Each story helps teach children the power they have in controlling and creating their thoughts and feelings. These subtle yet substantial stories can only bring enjoyment and awareness to younger children.

Nanaimo, BC (PRWEB) January 5, 2009 -- Emily Madill's Captain Joe Book Series, inspired by her son Joe, teaches how our everyday thoughts impact the quality of our lives, both constructively and destructively.

The four picture stories were created as a fun and innovative way to introduce the concept of thoughts being a choice to children ages five to nine years. The main character, Joe invites children to use their "thought-zapping" superpower to promote healthy self esteem and self awareness.

Emily Madill has published her own books to ensure that the integrity of the project remained in tact. She began writing the series when her son was nine months old and has remained an integral part of the decision making process throughout. With the support of family and friends, she has managed to successfully introduce a complicated topic in a clear and understandable format. The illustrations by Luke Winkelmans bring her colourful characters to life in a remarkable way.

The Captain Joe Series© was created as a tool for teachers to use in a classroom setting and it is Madill's goal to have them as part of the school mainstream curriculum. She believes in the importance of teaching children accountability and empowerment from a young age.

Along with the book series, Emily Madill created a curriculum resource package with various lesson ideas, activities and worksheets that can be used in the classroom or at home. She also has a website, captainjoesteachingresources.com where her books and resource package are available for sale.

Emily Madill hosted a formal book launch party on December 6, 2008 at Oliver Woods Community Center, Nanaimo BC from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm. Emily was on site to answer questions and sign books.

Read what others had to say about the books:
"I thoroughly enjoyed reading the Captain Joe series of books. The positive message sent to the reader is done in a way that children can really understand. The children realize that with Captain Joe's magic wand, they can control their own moods & actions. The writing is very relatable to both the child & the adult. I highly recommend the Captain Joe series of books to all parents." ~ Jayne Heys, Stay at home mother of a 4 and 6 year old.

"This series of short stories are both fun and transformational. Each story helps teach children the power they have in controlling and creating their thoughts and feelings. These subtle yet substantial stories can only bring enjoyment and awareness to younger children." ~ Adrianne Dartnall, Counsellor and Communication Skills Trainer.

"The Captain Joe Books are the perfect resource to empower children and build their confidence. Self-confidence is probably the most important thing a child can be given to progress into a successful person." ~ Sidney Lloyd, Retired Primary School Teacher.
